No doubt Mercedes-AMG raised the ire of Porsche when it unveiled its GT sports car in 2014.

The stunning coupe was aimed directly at the 911 and to some the two cars were seen to share a slight a resemblance when viewed from the rear.

The GT, though, came packing some serious heat. Under its long hood sat a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 delivering the kind of power only the top 911 models surpassed.

For the 2017 model year, AMG will throw another punch by bringing the price of entry down substantially.

Yes, the 2017 model year finally sees the arrival of the 456-horsepower GT. It’s starting price has been confirmed as $ 112,125. Last year’s 503-hp GT S is still available and sees its price rise slightly to $ 132,125, up from 2016’s $ 130,825 sticker. All figures include Mercedes’ standard $ 925 destination charge.

Mercedes-AMG GT R coming summer 2017

Since the car is relatively new, there aren’t any significant changes to mention. Both models are generously equipped as standard and include items such as a 7-speed dual-clutch transaxle, limited-slip differential, drive modes selector, and multiple electronic driving aids.

In addition to more power, upgrading to the GT S adds numerous extras such as more aggressive settings for the drive modes selector, an adjustable exhaust, Nappa leather, adjustable dampers, and Burmester premium audio.

New options for the 2017 model year include an aerodynamic package with a fixed rear wing; track-ready tires; and a 10-kilowatt onboard trickle charger.

The 2017 GT range will arrive in showrooms in late summer. Note, buyers looking for even more performance may want to wait until the summer of 2017 when AMG adds a hardcore model dubbed the GT R to the lineup. This one will bring a supercar-like 577 hp to the table.
