Ford GT documentary part one, The Decision: Video

If you’re a fan of the Blue Oval, nothing gets your heart pumping like the Ford GT. Built as a tribute to the GT40 that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966, the GT debuted in 2005 as a limited-run, 550-horsepower supercar. Now, just in time for the 50th anniversary of Ford’s 1-2-3 win at Le Mans, Ford is reviving the GT as both a street car and race car. The plan is to compete and, hopefully, win at Le Mans and build a sleek supercar that will act as a halo for the brand.

But this wasn’t a decision arrived at easily. Ford had to determine if it would be worth the effort and if it would make a good business case. Ford is chronicling the new GT program in a five-part documentary titled “The Return,” and today it released the chapter one, “The Decision,” which examines those issues.

Watch the video above to hear from Ford executives Bill Ford, Jr., Raj Nair, Dave Pericak, and Edsel B. Ford II talk about what went into the decision to revive the GT and take it racing.

You’ll see some cool footage and interesting behind-the-scenes tidbits here. We are looking forward to the remaining installments, which will, according to Ford, culminate in a long-form documentary.
