After a rough, seemingly never-ending gestation, Acura’s second-generation NSX is finally being delivered to customers.
Rights to the very first customer example, the car bearing VIN 001, was acquired by Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports and founder of Hendrick Automotive Group, at a charity auction back in January for $ 1.2 million.
On Tuesday, he visited the Performance Manufacturing Center (PMC) in Marysville, Ohio to personally pick up the car. He chose a Valencia Red Pearl exterior along with leather and Alcantara trim, carbon-ceramic brakes and carbon fiber for the engine cover, rear decklid spoiler and roof.

“Taking delivery of this first new Acura supercar and knowing the proceeds will benefit two remarkable organizations for children makes this a very special moment for me and everyone on our team,” Hendrick said in a statement. “It’s especially rewarding to see this incredible supercar coming to life in the United States, which is a real testament to the company’s commitment to innovation and manufacturing here.”
And it’s not just the manufacturing that’s Acura’s team in the U.S. was responsible for. Most of the engineering work took place at Honda’s R&D center located just a mile out from the car’s plant, and the final design was created at the Acura Design Studio in Torrance, California. The original NSX concept, which the production version closely resembles, was designed at Honda’s Wako Studio in Japan, though.
Pricing for the 2017 NSX starts at $ 157,800, which isn’t a bad deal considering the technology and performance on offer. Recall, the car’s hybrid powertrain delivers a stout 573 horsepower and 476 pound-feet of torque, which Acura says is enough to rocket the car from 0-60 mph in 3.0 seconds and on to a top speed of 191 mph.
