Watch the Mercedes museum turn into a… hungry t-rex?

A pair of film students in Germany have taken a bite out of Mercedes-Benz’s history by creating a short video that turns the automaker’s historical museum into a car-eating tyrannosaurus rex.

The film isn’t quite as far-fetched as you might think. And one thing’s for sure: You’ll never look at the distinctive architecture of the Stuttgart museum the same way.

Feeling like a monster flick from the 1930s, the film has a decidedly retro look to it that is amplified by the vehicles the museum/dinosaur swallows up. Mercedes says the film is called A Museum Monster, although we like the “hungry for history” tagline it has given it even more.

The film makes extensive use of vintage stock footage from Mercedes’ archives. It’s the creation of film students Marco Erbrich and Florian Greth from Flyvision Media. It came out of a partnership between Mercedes-Benz and the Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film as a way to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the automaker’s museum. As for the museum itself, it is one of the top tourist attractions in Stuttgart and it serves as the home base for the automaker’s Classics division.

A second video below gives a brief history of how Mercedes-Benz came to be.
