Subaru’s Impreza has been completely redesigned for the 2017 model year but new versions of the WRX and WRX STI are still some years off.
That means the current performance duo, introduced for 2015, will remain on sale for the time being, albeit with some updates to keep them fresh.
Among the updates, either standard or available, are a tricot-pattern headliner, automatic headlights, electronic driver aids, a 9-speaker Harman Kardon sound system and Subaru’s StarLink infotainment system. The WRX STI offers buyers a few extra options such as leather trim, an 8-way power driver’s seat and power moonroof.
The 2017 WRX continues to be offered in base, Premium and Limited trim levels, and the car also continues to be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter flat-4 delivering 268 horsepower. Drive is to all four wheels as standard and buyers can continue to choose from a 6-speed manual transmission or CVT.
Opting for the 2017 WRX STI nets you a turbocharged 2.5-liter flat-4 delivering 305 hp to all four wheels. The sole transmission on offer is a 6-speed manual and buyers can now choose a low-profile trunk spoiler as a no-cost option in place of the taller rear wing normally fitted to the WRX STI. Trim levels for this model include base and Limited.
Prices for the 2017 Subaru WRX start at $ 27,515 while for the WRX STI you’re looking at a starting price of $ 36,015. Both figures include an $ 820 destination charge.
