The eighth generation of Rolls-Royce’s Phantom bows in 2018 and the British automaker is crafting a new aluminum spaceframe structure to underpin the large, ultra-luxurious sedan.

Today the automaker gave us a look at the structure which is under development at a facility in Goodwood, England.

Rolls-Royce has previously revealed that the structure is variable in size and ride height, which is important as it will eventually underpin all of the automaker’s next-generation models including a new SUV.

It’s currently thought that the new Phantom will be the first model to ride on the structure, with the new SUV, code-named Project Cullinan, expected to follow later in 2018. Both models have already been spotted in test mule form.

Though a new Phantom is less than two years away, demand for the current model remains strong, Rolls-Royce tells us. The automaker plans to offer some special edition models similar to the Zenith range of final Phantom coupes and convertibles to satisfy this demand well into 2017.
