A new Jeep Wrangler is on the way, but that doesn’t mean the current model isn’t getting enhanced for 2017. While many things on the Wrangler are old-school, and we like it that way, lighting is one item that we are happy to see upgraded.
New for the 2017 model year are LED headlights and fog lights. These will be available on both the Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited body styles, optional on Sport and Sport S and standard on Sahara and Rubicon trims.
For a vehicle that was only available with halogen lights–technology that’s been around for quite some time, mind you–it’s quite a leap to go from that to LEDs. We just skipped straight over HIDs into the most current technology available.
Of course, the aftermarket might not be too thrilled about this development as the headlights were likely one of the first upgrades Wrangler owners made.
Now your Wrangler–with its old school body-on-frame design, live axles, lockers, available 6-speed manual transmission, fold-down windshield, and removable doors–is available with the most modern lighting tech you can get outside of OLED or lasers, neither of which are offered in the U.S.
While the new 2018 Jeep Wrangler will be even more modern, don’t expect anything crazy. It will have the same basic shape and layout, though, a pickup truck and hybrid version are both in the works.
